Abstract

The Masha natural bamboo forest was stocked with 8840 trees ha(-1), unifomily distributed with a mean height of 16.8 m. diameter of 7.6 cm and leaf area index (LAI) of 9.7. Age-structure was 13% of < 1 year. 24% of 1-3 years and 63%, of >3 years. Culm contributed 82%, branch 13% and leaf 5% to the 110 t ha(-1) total above ground biomass, while trees mature for harvest (>3 year) made up 73%.
